Kaira’s been spending an interlude getting faster with her math facts before starting the next math book. Flashcards can get tiresome, and she enjoys the change of pace drilling on the computer. (It also frees me up to work with the other children more!)
I’ve heard great things about Quarter Mile Math and FlashMaster, and am hoping to invest in Quarter Mile Math sometime soon. In the meantime, here are a few FREE resources online.
The Math Fact Cafe is great! I’ve used it to generate specialized worksheets, but usually we just use the flashcard program.
This Math Fact program allows even more customization of which facts are drilled.
And the Math-U-See drill page has a nice simple flashcard program too.
Most of the Math Playground is “busy” for our purposes, but the free “Logo Park” is a neat sample of Terrapin Logo and a fun free way to introduce a child to the most simple foundations of computer programming. In a few years we may spring for the full version of Logo, but for now this is a fun taste.
Kendra is right on Kaira’s heels and is eagerly practicing her 10-Key skills. Once she can use the correct fingering with ease, she’ll get to drill math facts on the computer too!
