Sorting laundry can be an overwhelming chore in a busy household, so I thought I’d share two of my favorite tips for “easing the load”.
With several children close in age, the dot system is a real time and sanity saver. On the tag, or inside the back of every garment we place dots that tell us to which child an item belongs. The eldest child has one dot, next oldest two, and so on. When a garment is handed down to a younger sibling, we just add another dot. I can take a pair of panties out of the dryer, glance at the dots, and place them in the appropriate basket.
My other laundry gimmick is called the “Sock Pro“. These handy little gadgets clip socks together through the washer and dryer. We purchased a different color for each child, then trained the troops to clip their socks before putting them in the hamper. Assigning a different color Sock Pro to each child makes sorting a breeze. We’ve not found them satisfactory for clipping adult socks together, but they are a fantastic help in keeping children’s socks from becoming widows and orphans in the wash.
